Japan Stocks Close Higher; Nikkei 225 Up 1.27%

Japan stocks concluded the trading session on a positive note on Friday, with gains in the Paper & Pulp, Manufacturing, and Transportation Equipment sectors driving the upward trajectory of shares.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 index advanced by 1.27%.

Among the top performers on the Nikkei 225 were Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (TYO:4506), which surged by 6.64% or 19.00 points to close at 305.00. Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (TYO:9501) also saw notable gains, rising by 6.11% or 54.10 points to conclude at 939.60, while IHI Corp. (TYO:7013) recorded a 5.72% increase, adding 219.00 points to reach 4,048.00 by the end of the trading session.

Conversely, the session saw Tokyo Electron Ltd. (TYO:8035) as one of the worst performers, declining by 2.52% or 870.00 points to settle at 33,630.00. Omron Corp (TYO:6645) slipped by 1.83% or 96.00 points, ending the session at 5,138.00, while Bandai Namco Holdings Inc (TYO:7832) experienced a 1.65% decrease, shedding 48.00 points to reach 2,862.00.

The Tokyo Stock Exchange witnessed a dominance of rising stocks over declining ones, with 3143 stocks closing higher, 554 lower, and 176 remaining unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility index, which gauges the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, climbed by 4.88% to 17.62.

In commodities trading, crude oil for July delivery saw a slight decrease of 0.17% or 0.13, settling at $77.78 per barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August also dipped marginally by 0.04% or 0.03, reaching $81.85 per barrel. The August Gold Futures contract experienced a decrease of 0.09% or 2.20, trading at $2,364.30 per troy ounce.

The USD/JPY pair edged up by 0.08% to 156.93, while the EUR/JPY pair fell by 0.05% to 169.78.

The US Dollar Index Futures indicated a gain of 0.14% at 104.80.
